The Real-World Benefits of Conferencing

Message from Clare Conferencing

Here at Clare we are extremely proud of the real-world benefits that a well-organised conference can deliver. We take very seriously our part in the bringing together of thought-leaders and those who seek to learn from them- and from each other.

A recent example of such collaborative creativity and the sharing of the skills necessary to communicate ideas to the wider world, can be seen in the development of the Biennial Cambridge International Conference on Mental Health.

Founded by Clare Member,  Mark Agius, the Conference returned for the fourth time to Clare College in September 2019 to hold its most successful conference to date. The conference itself aims to attract medical students to psychiatry as a future specialty, through various presentations and competitions.

Mark used his influence as a member of the International Editorial Board  to publish the participating student's papers in a PUBMED listed Journal, Psychiatria Danubina, he was then able to provide the opportunity for a large cohort of Clare Students, to develop the skills necessary to publish research articles, which enabled them to  start their careers with these articles included in their CVs. when they qualified. These students were invited in return to speak at conferences in Poland, Belgium and Germany, sharing more effectively their own insights and findings.

This particularly illustrates some of the very real, on-the-ground results that can be achieved from holding conferences here at Clare College.

With its largest number of delegates yet, we are proud to say that the Clare College event surpassed even the high standard of previous Conferences; exceeding expectations of the delegates and organisers. Clare provides an historic and beautiful location for such events, along with state of the art facilities and first-class catering, creating that extra incentive for delegates to attend.

“Experience and feedback have shown that Cambridge Biennial International Conferences have developed a certain uniqueness, through combination of high academic standards with inclusivity and maintenance of a friendly and charming atmosphere. A particularly popular part of the conference is the Conference dinner held at the Great Hall of Clare College described by many attendees as reminding them of the Harry Potter film, preceded by drinks in the beautiful Clare College Scholars or Fellows Garden.”
